the Creeps

This was cute. As cute as something so deep could be, anyway. This book is essentially a collection of fear, made into a comic format. The illustrations were great – they made the book what it was. I sort of want to lay in bed and contemplate my whole life now, because some of these actually hit me a bit hard.

Hamilton

I wanted to understand the Hamilton hype lately. So I picked out this book and got sucked right into it. The writing is great, as are the illustrations, and I certainly get why everybody is consumed by this. Never thought history would interest me, but this managed to get me.

Tokyo Street Style

Ahh, the photos in here are stunning. This artists’ work always is. My expectations remain high for her, as does my opinion. Each illustration is as unique and beautiful as the last. It was great to receive and I cannot wait to color in it.

Start Where You Are Note Cards

Obviously not a book, so I can’t go into literary context. What I can say is that the illustrations on these cards are stunning. Each of them is beautiful, and the little keepsake box is the cutest thing. The artist went through a lot of effort/trouble to make these as amazing as they are. I think they’d be cute to use as stationery, or maybe to give as a gift.

The Midnight Queen

Three stars from me. This was a quick, entertaining read, so I got through it fast. The story felt like it was for children than YA, but I don’t regret reading it. I simply didn’t expect it to be what it is. My only issue was that it felt slow, but that might be because this isn’t my usual genre.

Blood Rose Rebellion

Very much like Red Queen (and it reminds me a little of the Hunger Games too). Interesting parallels to today’s societal issues, but does not overshadow the plot. A page-turner, surely, but I really, really wish this was not a series. I feel like this could have been made into a stand-alone. Really unfortunate.

Q&A a Day for Writers

Awesome writing prompts – especially for writers. Those who are into creating fiction would love this. Great to buy for yourself or a friend. Fairly small. One question for every day. Each one makes you think. Nothing generic. It goes on for five years, a great way to document your work.

The Night Voyage

The photos were all lovely. Incredible cover. Loved the style of illustrations. A few friends went out and ordered themselves a copy too because they loved it so much. I wish that there were more pages to color. Looking forward to more work like this from the illustrator.

The Wolf Road

This book was so creepy. Good creepy. I wasn’t totally sure what I was expecting when I received this book, but I knew I was hoping for something different. Something that would keep me on the edge of my seat. I was not disappointed. My favorite thing about the book were the character dynamics. I was captivated until the very end.

5/5
